About Us

A young woman wrote a novel that was accepted by a book publisher. Then she heard no more from them. By chance, one day she found her work on sale in a shop under another name – so she took the company to court. That case took two years. But she won. By then, having learned so much about the business, she became a publisher herself to support and protect new authors. Thus was born Local Legend Publishing.

In our lives we sometimes face huge challenges. Beth proved that we can overcome them. We just need determination and a profound belief in truth and honesty. Not only that, wonderful new opportunities can emerge.

The company passed to the present owner in 2012 and was renamed Local Legend. Since then it has developed greatly, focused on the Mind, Body and Spirit genre. Yet we are proud to abide by exactly the same original ethical motives.

HELPING NEW AUTHORS

LOCAL LEGEND is now an independent MBS publishing business with a personal and friendly approach. We are dedicated especially, but not exclusively, to helping new authors because the journey to publication can often be a daunting experience.
Authors ourselves, we know only too well how it feels!

After all, Agatha Christie faced rejection for five years. Only Shakespeare has now sold more copies. J K Rowling was rejected twelve times and advised to “get a day job.” Stephen King, James Joyce, George Orwell, C S Lewis and Dan Brown… the list of triumphs over failure goes on.

Of course, most authors will not be in that celebrated company. Yet the most excellent spiritual writers can experience huge disillusion when dealing with traditional, larger publishers. Even finding a supportive agent can be very stressful and no guarantee of success.

Therefore, if you have written an MBS book, Local Legend will guide you throughout the process to earning recognition and royalties. More importantly, perhaps, you will have the personal satisfaction of seeing your work beautifully, professionally designed and edited (most other companies do not offer this).

WE ARE DEFINITELY NOT VANITY PUBLISHERS!

♦ It can be ordered at any bookstore, on the High Street or online.
♦ In addition, digital versions will be available on all eBook platforms.
♦ Finally, it will be professionally marketed on social media and in the Press.

Local Legend paperbacks are printed on quality paper and have outstanding full colour covers. Importantly, our printers are the highly respected Lightning Source. They are part of the international Ingram group, with facilities across North and South America, Europe, India, the Far East and Australia. Next and just as vital, our distributors are the market leaders Gardners.

THE LOCAL LEGEND VISION

Local Legend is dedicated to producing high quality Mind, Body and Spirit books (see our fiction and non-fiction books ). Therefore, your work will support wellbeing. It will contribute to the understanding of human consciousness. Moreover, it will encourage your readers to be the best that they can be and support them on their spiritual journeys. It will enlighten our relationship with the natural world.

We like both fiction and non-fiction in the areas of spirituality, the paranormal, mystery, the psychological and psychic. We also like fantasy, inspirational stories, self-help, humour and poetry. So what will you offer us?

A last word… we do try to be genuinely ethical. Essentially, this is reflected in the type of work we support and in the personal care shown to all our authors (see Authors’ Feedback). This is because Local Legend is not in this business to make a profit for ourselves. Indeed, we make no charge at all for our administrative work as a book publisher. Furthermore, we even provide free editing for deserving authors. And the owner of Local Legend receives no payment! We simply want to support the Mind, Body and Spirit.

SO WHAT’S THE CATCH?

Ah, yes, let’s be up front about this! Local Legend is not-for-profit so we do not have the big resources of traditional publishers. Therefore, like other independents:

♦ We cannot offer advances on royalties.
♦ We do charge a publishing fee.

On the other hand, our royalties are typically more than three times higher than other companies offer. And our fee is a small fraction of others’ because it just covers the actual publication and our running costs. Add to this the free admin and editing and we think it’s a great deal. Full details will be given when your work is accepted in principle. By the way, our contracts are straightforward, written in plain English.
