In order to truly connect with the self, we must try and relinquish the idea of self, to move beyond the ego and connect with what may be above all the distractions. So where were my answers? Alone in this incongruously modern and soulless hotel room, in the middle of a vast and ancient spiritual landscape, I found myself confessing to losing track of my authentic personal compass…

Well, it’s as good a place as any.

What the…? The air-con in my room seemed to have gone into overdrive. The atmosphere became very still. The hairs on the back of my neck started dancing, and I felt like I was going off-balance, beginning to feel faint. Okay. Well, it hadn’t actually been a question sent out to the ethereal realms, but I definitely seemed to have got a response anyway.

Clear as a bell, I heard those words in my head despite them seeming to come down a crackling old phone line from far away. It was a deep, friendly voice. My own voice? No, certainly not mine. And then, almost immediately, the song We’ve Only Just Begun by The Carpenters started playing in my head. Very funny.

So was this real? Is this what we were doing, going down the direction of Helen Schucman’s A Course In Miracles or Geraldine Cummins’ The Road to Immortality or countless others who have supposedly received spiritual wisdom directly channelled by Spirit? Nowadays, it seems like every so-called guru has a direct line to the archangels. And as I’ve said, I’m a natural sceptic. All the same, I reached for my phone and turned on the voice recorder as I always do to make a note of my experiences.

….…..

That isn’t much help. I don’t know if I’m just experiencing a bout of wishful thinking, or if I’m making this up. You need to help me out here. Is this even me saying those words?

Technically, it is.

Hmm. I truly didn’t see this coming. Something feels different. Something has shifted in the room and palpably changed. I can’t explain it. There’s a kind of pressure. Not entirely unpleasant. Or maybe energy would be a better word.

Are we going to talk about semantics?
There is a greater correspondence to be had here
than discussing words themselves.
But to elaborate further,
energy is a more accurate word to describe this experience.

Slow down, it’s not easy to record all this. So… what next? Am I channelling now?

We shall simply be having a conversation.
Although, from your current physical outlook,
it’s going to appear one-sided to begin with.
You’ll only need to look back later on what you’ve recorded
to know that these words aren’t from yourself.
Because that’s what you’re currently thinking.
That’s your current and immediate concern.

Yes. Yes, it is. What if I’m making this up? That’s what many people would think. What if it’s just me getting in my own way because I’ve written two books and have been thinking about writing another? What if people just think I’ve cracked if they ever get to read this? What if I think I’ve cracked when I listen back to this?

The people who think you had cracked thought that already
after reading or even hearing about your first book.
You don’t need to worry about them.
There’s a whole other audience for you to make a positive impact with.
And that will be the entire point of this dialogue.
If you are truly honest with yourself, the reason you’ve been dilly-dallying
is that you fear the commitment this dialogue will require.

All is revealed in the glorious moments of transition.
Linear time falls away,
every possibility of the continued physical experience
extends and is revealed.
Every single variable outcome for all who are left behind,
and in some cases the one who just left,
is exposed to the soul going through the moment of transition.
And it is then that the soul knows,
they know why they chose their exit point
at a supreme soul-level of understanding.

Well, that definitely wasn’t my own voice. I didn’t say that. I couldn’t say that. I’ve never heard it explained like that before.

Therein lies the root cause of most of your problems, as a species.
It is a collective physical experience for all living beings,
from the cat to the cow, from the human to the tree,
from the wind to the sea.

From you to me.

Perfect. You have contributed perfectly.
From each of you to the other, there is only One.
And yet you miss this fundamental truth repeatedly.
If there is only one collective physical experience,
if there is only one collective consciousness,
if there is only One Soul, divided into many,
then how does death possibly exist?

Some brief quotes from the conversation

On death: “Celebrate your loved ones who have transitioned. They are right there with you, right now, always now, because there is no such thing as separation and there is no such thing as death. Ever, or anywhere.”

The purpose of life: “Each individual soul chooses to incarnate to help collective consciousness evolve, as well as to progress their own personal blueprint. Everyone you come into contact with is there to influence the other. Each of you will learn from every single interaction and evolve.”

How can we change our lives? “To break free from old patterns you must learn to trust feeling over thought. Thoughts are useful, thoughts are powerful… But logic and overthinking and reasoning will get in the way. Go with intuition, go with love, tune in to your highest truth.”

Manifesting our best lives: “Be that which you wish to achieve. And then release all need for the outcome.”
