A lifetime with one pair of shoes.
If only.
I’ll choose the shiny pair with buckles
so delightful in those childhood days
and hours of wonder
and naivety.
Could we but choose
when paths are steep and shoes worn thin
to wear the shiny pair
with buckles.
Alas.
We grow out of them.
Life becomes a long and weary walk
and shiny shoes with buckles
have no place
on its rough ways.
